About the video formats

  • Quicktime: Quicktime has larger file size (compared to other streamable formats), but is known to have the best video quality of the streaming formats listed here. Developed by Apple, Quicktime is in widespread use on internet.
  • MP4/MPEG: DVD-quality at less than 1 Mbps through a broadband connection. Although MP4 files are much smaller than regular video files, they will still take time to download with a broadband connection because they are still generally large files.
  • WMV: Windows Media Video (WMV) is a compressed, streaming video file format developed by Microsoft. Small file size, good picture quality; files can be viewed with Windows Media Player.
